Warning Signs You Have Varicoceles
Author: StrideCare Internal Team
If you have issues with fertility or feel pain in your testicles or scrotum, you could have varicoceles. This common condition affects about 15% of all males and mostly occurs in males ages 15-25 years old.
At StrideCare, our team of varicocele specialists has the expertise and experience to treat your condition. We understand what you’re going through and want to help alleviate your pain.
When you come in to meet with us, we talk to you about your symptoms so we can identify the details of your condition. We also help you learn more about what’s going on in your body.
Understanding varicoceles
If you’re familiar with varicose veins that occur in the legs, then you know how veins can swell with blood. Varicoceles work in a similar way, but they appear in the scrotum sac that covers your testicles. The sac houses veins and arteries that send blood to your reproductive organs.
When you have varicoceles, the enlarged veins typically form on the left side of your scrotum instead of both. They can cause an abnormal development of your testicles during puberty and decrease your sperm count.
This condition usually develops over time and can be diagnosed fairly easily when looking for symptoms.
Signs of varicoceles
Varicoceles can be obvious. You may visibly see the enlargement in your scrotum sac, which might resemble a small bag of worms.
Other symptoms include:
- Sharp pain in your testicles or scrotum
- Dull pain
- Increased enlargement when standing or exercising
- Atrophy of your affected testicle
- Lessening of pain when lying down
You might not be able to conceive with your partner due to a low sperm count or low-quality sperm due to varicoceles.
If you experience any of these signs, schedule an appointment with us. We can consult with you, give you an accurate diagnosis, and customize a personal treatment plan.
Treatment for varicoceles
Varicoceles don’t always cause harmful symptoms, so you might not need treatment. But if your condition causes issues, we can repair your varicoceles with varicocele embolization.
This nonsurgical, minimally invasive outpatient procedure allows your blood to flow correctly, relieves you of any pain, and returns proper function to your reproductive glands.
The treatment requires very little downtime. You should be able to head back to work in just a few days and even hit the gym after seven days.
Prior to starting any new treatment or questions regarding a medical condition, always seek the advice of your doctor or other qualified health provider. This information is not a substitute for professional medical advice.
