Sean English, MD

Board Certified Vascular Surgeon

Dr. Sean J. English, MD, is board-certified in Vascular Surgery by the American Board of Surgery, and he is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation. Dr. English is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He earned a degree in Physics from the College of Wooster. Dr. English then completed a Research Training Award with the National Institutes of Health, prior to and during medical school at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. While completing his residency in General Surgery at the University of Michigan, Dr. English was awarded a prestigious Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service F32 Award for the study of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) development and the use of functional imaging techniques to predict AAA rupture. Dr. English was also acknowledged with several awards for his research and work as a resident.

Dr. English completed his fellowship in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School. While there, he received a Society for Vascular Surgery Foundation Clinical Research Seed Grant to continue his work studying AAA development and rupture. Dr. English took a tenure-track position with Washington University in St. Louis, working at both Barnes Jewish Hospital and the John Cochran VA Medical Center. Dr. English was acknowledged for his role as a medical student, resident, and fellow educator, while also growing a busy vascular surgery practice. He earned the highly competitive University of California San Francisco 2017 Wylie Scholar Vascular Surgery Research Award with grant funding, and he ran a well-recognized National Institutes of Health R01 funded research laboratory, continuing his study of AAA development and rupture, as well as theranostics for AAA rupture prediction and prevention.
