Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy

What is Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN)?

DPN is a progressive disorder that significantly impacts quality of life for patients with diabetes. It usually presents itself as debilitating pain, numbness, or burning sensations in the lower extremities resulting from damage to the peripheral nerves. Patients may have been previously prescribed medications, but often experience partially effective results and notice more serious side effects after regular consumption. Patients with DPN who have not received relief through conventional treatments may be good candidates for the minimally invasive procedure Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS).

What Causes DPN?

What Causes DPN?

DPN is caused by prolonged exposure to elevated blood sugar levels in individuals with diabetes. Over a significant period, elevated blood sugar can damage blood vessels that supply the nerves, resulting in nerve damage to the lower extremities. Additionally, other factors such as inflammation, changes in blood flow, and metabolic imbalances contribute to the development of DPN.

What are the Symptoms of DPN?
