Angiography

What is an Angiography?

Angiography is a specialized process that allows our vascular specialists to view your arteries through an x-ray. An angiogram involves introducing a contrast dye into your arteries via a small catheter that allows your blood vessels to be seen on an x-ray. This diagnostic test is used to detect restricted blood vessels that may be causing you a great deal of discomfort and pain. Your vascular specialist may suggest that you get an angiogram if they believe you are suffering from arterial disease.

Your angiogram will be performed at your local state-of-the-art StrideCare location by one of our expert board-certified vascular specialists. A small catheter will be placed in the artery and a safe contrast dye will be injected to evaluate the arteries. This is to ensure your specialist will be able to get a full view of your arterial system on the x-rays. Injecting the contrast to evaluate the arteries will help your doctor determine if further treatment is needed such as angioplasty or stenting. The entire diagnostic process typically takes about an hour to complete.

Immediately following an Angiogram, we will monitor the access site for bleeding for a short time.  The time will vary by patient and access site. You may experience some mild bruising and tenderness at the access site.  This is normal and side effects typically resolve within a few days of treatment. The results of your angiogram will be available within a few days of your diagnostic appointment, at which time your specialist will ask you to come in for a follow-up appointment to discuss the results.
